Great Article to Read in the New England Journal of Medicine
The most recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine has a very interesting piece about the initial treatment options for prostate cancer.
The article begins by describing the case of a real-life patient who has fairly typical newly-diagnosed prostate cancer. Then surgery, radiation therapy, and active surveillance are explored as treatment options for the described patient. A different prostate cancer expert explores each of these options and discusses why they believe their choice is the best.
I recommend giving the article a read. It clearly lays out the pros and cons of each treatment option and provides a glimpse of how recognized prostate cancer experts work out in their own minds how to treat a patient.
