For men who have been diagnosed with early prostate cancer, it's important to keep in mind a couple key facts.
1. The majority of men with early-stage prostate cancer die from other causes.
2. Other, much more common causes of death such as heart disease, can be unwisely ignored once a cancer diagnosis has been made.
Those diagnosed with cancer often start to have a sort of "tunnel vision" in regard to their own health and can focus almost exclusively on their cancer and its implications for their lives. While this is understandable, it rarely is the best strategy for long term health.
Statistically, heart disease is far more likely to prematurely end a man's life regardless of whether he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer or not. It's very important to keep this in mind and to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle rather than focusing solely on cancer.
