Famed Athlete Runs for Prostate Cancer in the 2009 Boston Marathon

From Matthew Schmitz, M.D., About.com GuideApril 20, 2009

Follow me on:

Bill Rodgers, the famed American marathoner who won both the Boston and New York marathons in the 1970s (and over 20 marathons overall), will be running in the 2009 Boston Marathon, but this time for a different cause.

Rodgers was diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer last year and now has dedicated his efforts in the 2009 Boston Marathon to promoting prostate cancer awareness. While he runs, Rodgers will be wearing a singlet with the Athletes for a Cure logo emblazoned across it. Athletes for a Cure is a fundraising and awareness effort of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
