Another Proton Therapy Center to Open Near Chicago

The first proton therapy center in the Midwest region of the United States is set to open in Warrensville, Illinois.  The center, at Central DuPage Hospital, cost $140 million and will be able to treat roughly 1500 patients per year.

Proton therapy has been gaining in popularity as a treatment option for certain cancer types for several years.  Due to the very high cost of opening a proton therapy center, however, most patients who are interested in this option are unable to receive it.  Only a few centers currently exist in the United States.

can this Proton Therapy be used on a person if they have already had 38 treatments of Radiation.
