Gary, Indiana Mayor Not Seeking Re-Election Due to Prostate Cancer

Rudy Clay, the mayor of Gary, Indiana announced recently that he will not seek re-election due to his battle with prostate cancer.

Clay, 75, has been mayor of Gary since 2006 and had stated his intention to run for re-election as recently as January 2011.

His recent decision not to run was triggered by a recommendation from his doctor that he try to avoid the more highly demanding aspects of his job as mayor.
