Urinary incontinence during sex (termed climacturia) has been shown in a recent study to be much more prevalent among men who have undergone surgery to remove their prostate due to prostate cancer than was previously thought.
The study, published recently in the Journal of Urology, reported the findings from over 1400 questionnaires that were completed by men who had undergone radical prostatectomy to remove a cancerous prostate.
In this study, roughly 1/3 of men who had undergone prostatectomy noted urinary incontinence during sex and 12% of these men said that this particular symptom was a source of serious concern for them. The study also showed that this issue resolved for some men over time, but it did not for many others.
