Sex Interest and Ability Increase Post Op with Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors
Thursday March 1, 2007
According to research presented at ASCO's 3rd Prostate Cancer Symposium, the use of phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as ViagraŽ and LevitraŽ greatly improve mens' ability and interest in sex after having prostatectomy or EBRT treatments for prostate cancer.
A poster presentation outlined the findings of a study at University of Michigan of over 1,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1995 and 2003.
The study found the drugs improved sexual interest and capacity over a two year period following the cancer treatment.
Men treated with prostatectomy using the drugs initially had lower sexual function and interest than those treated with EBRT, but improved more significantly by two years. Men with EBRT using the drugs also had improvement though not as drastic as with those treated with prostatectomy.
