What is Alprostadil?

Definition: Alprostadil is in a class of drugs called prostaglandins. It works to increase blood flow by opening blood vessels. Alprostadil can be injected into the penis to open the blood vessels leading to the penis - thus often leading to an erection. It is a commonly used treatment for erectile dysfunction. It is sold under the trade name Caverject.
