The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a massive, influential organization founded in 1913 in New York and now based in Atlanta, Georgia, with over 3,000 offices spread across the United States.

Major Activities

The ACS is heavily involved in promoting cancer research, cancer prevention, support for cancer patients and their families, cancer awareness, and cancer detection. The ACS spends many tens of millions of dollars per year on these activities.

Additional efforts include publishing the influential medical journal, Cancer, publishing various expert recommendations (such as prostate cancer screening guidelines), and holding widely recognized fundraising events such as the Relay for Life.

Prostate Cancer-Related Efforts

As noted above, the ACS provides their own set of prostate cancer screening guidelines for physicians. They also support a wide range of prostate cancer related research projects, fund prostate cancer awareness and detection activities, and provide a large amount of information on their website related to prostate cancer.
